This Tequila Soda contains tequila, lime, Tajin, and my homemade serrano simple syrup.

This Spicy Serrano Tequila Soda contains tequila, lime, Tajin, and my homemade serrano simple syrup.

We have been in the Florida Keys for the past two weeks and I am so enjoying this weather - I do not envy everyone back north. All the beach makes we want to do is sit outside and drink either a Mojito or a Caipirinha. I had some Tajin here at the house (which I use to put on all my fruit like the true Mexican that I am) and was in the mood for a margarita. I did not want all the sugar margarita mixers have, and I wanted to use the club soda I had in the fridge. This is where Spicy Serrano Tequila Soda came to the mix.

How to make Serrano Simple Syrup

Make the serrano Simple Syrup. Combine ½ cup water and ½ cup sugar into a small pot and add a whole serrano pepper. On low heat simmer until the sugar completely dissolves and immediately remove from heat. Let cool and transfer to a lidded jar. Refrigerate until ready to use, syrup lasts 1 week. Leave the serrano in there to keep that spicy taste!

This syrup is completely optional for a Tequila Soda. You really only need tequila, soda, lime and ice, but I love adding the Serrano Simple Syrup for that extra kick!

In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, serrano simple syrup, lime juice, and shake until chilled. Rim a glass with a lime wedge then dip in the tajin. Add fresh ice to the glass, pour the drink over, and garnish with lime wedges.
