Description

Fresh-cut sweet potatoes are lightly coated with cornstarch, Cajun seasoning, and smoked paprika, then air-fried until tender inside and crisp around the edges. Serve these homemade air fryer sweet potato fries with an optional creamy Cajun dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Cajun Sweet Potato Fries

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • Avocado or olive oil spray

  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning

  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika

  • Flaky sea salt, to taste

  • 2 tablespoons freeze-dried chives

Optional Cajun Dipping Sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • Dash of hot sauce, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F if recommended for your model.
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes, if desired, and cut them into uniform ¼-inch-thick sticks.
  3. Pat the sweet potato sticks completely dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
  4. Place the fries in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle the cornstarch over them and toss until they have a very thin, even coating with no large white patches.
  5. Spray the fries evenly with avocado or olive oil. Add the Cajun seasoning and smoked paprika, then toss until evenly coated.
  6. Arrange the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between them. Cook in batches if necessary.
  7. Air-fry at 380°F for 12 to 16 minutes, flipping the fries or shaking the basket after approximately 7 minutes. Continue cooking until the centers are tender and the edges are browned and crisp.
  8. While the fries cook, make the optional dipping sauce. Whisk the mayonnaise, lime juice, Cajun seasoning, and hot sauce together in a small bowl until smooth.
  9. Transfer the fries to a serving plate. Immediately sprinkle them with flaky sea salt and freeze-dried chives. Serve hot with the Cajun dipping sauce, ketchup, or ranch.

Notes

  • Cut the fries as evenly as possible so they finish cooking at the same time.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly before adding the cornstarch.
  • Use only a thin layer of cornstarch to avoid a powdery coating.
  • Cajun seasoning blends vary in salt and heat. Taste yours before adding extra salt.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook the fries in batches if necessary.
  • Serve immediately because homemade sweet potato fries soften as they cool.
  • Cooking time varies by air-fryer model and fry thickness.
