Description

These homemade air fryer chicken fries are made with strips of chicken breast coated in crispy Parmesan panko and cooked until golden.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 12 tablespoons olive oil or olive-oil spray
  • Dipping sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
  2. Add the panko, Parmesan, garlic powder, and a pinch each of salt and pepper to a food processor. Pulse briefly until the breadcrumbs are finer and evenly combined. Transfer to a shallow bowl.
  3. Slice each chicken breast horizontally into thinner cutlets. Cut the chicken into evenly sized, fry-shaped strips and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Place the flour in a shallow bowl. Whisk the eggs in a second bowl. Place the breadcrumb mixture in a third bowl.
  5. Coat each chicken strip in flour and shake off the excess. Dip it into the eggs, then press it into the breadcrumb mixture until completely coated. Transfer to a clean plate and repeat.
  6. Arrange the chicken fries in a single layer in the air-fryer basket. Lightly spray or brush them with olive oil.
  7. Air-fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through and lightly spraying the second side with oil. Begin checking especially thin strips after 5–6 minutes.
  8. Remove the chicken fries when they are golden and have reached an internal temperature of 165°F. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Cook the chicken in batches rather than overcrowding the basket.
  • Air-fryer temperatures and cooking speeds vary. Use the internal temperature as the final test.
  • Finely grated Parmesan adheres better than large shreds.
  • For extra flavor, add ½ teaspoon onion powder and ½ teaspoon paprika to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Nutrition information should be calculated using the exact chicken weight, amount of breading used, oil absorbed, and chosen dipping sauce.
