Description

Looking for a healthy French onion dip? This easy recipe combines caramelized onions, Greek yogurt, Worcestershire sauce, and olive oil, creating a delicious dip Greek yogurt lovers will adore—perfect for pairing with your favorite potato chip!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire
  • 2 cups Greek Yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the Onions: In a large skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt and sugar to the onions and continue to cook for another 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Prepare the Dip Base: In a medium bowl, combine the Greek Yogurt, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and ground black pepper. Mix well.
  3. Combine and Chill: Once the caramelized onions have cooled, mix them into the Greek Yogurt mixture. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together.
  4. Serve: Before serving, give the dip a good stir and sprinkle with fresh chopped chives if desired. Serve with Ruffles chips and enjoy!

Notes

  • Take Your Time with Caramelizing: Slow-cooking the onions is key to achieving that rich, deep flavor. Cook them over medium heat and stir frequently to prevent burning. This process can take 30-35 minutes, but the result is well worth it.
  • Use High-Quality Ingredients: Opt for high-quality Greek yogurt for a creamy texture and better taste. Similarly, choose fresh onions and good olive oil for the best results.
  • Cool Onions Completely: Ensure the caramelized onions are fully cooled before mixing them into the Greek yogurt. This prevents the dip from becoming too runny and helps the flavors meld together better.
