Description
This Chipotle Ketchup Recipe is everything you have ever dreamed of. You know I absolutely love anything related to chipotle peppers, so I needed to make this Homemade Chipotle Ketchup. The chipotles give the ketchup a nice smoky kick with a delicious spice. You can top this on eggs, burgers, fries and hot dogs.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can of tomato puree
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 chipotle chilies in adobo sauce
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, until soft. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the tomato puree, brown sugar, vinegar, chipotles, salt, chili powder and stir to combine.
- Increase the heat to high heat and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes, until the sauce reaches a ketchup consistency.
- Add everything into a blender and blend until smooth. Taste and salt as needed. Mason Jars are your best friend when you make condiments like this! Put leftover sauce in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to one month.
Notes
- The longer you simmer, the thicker the sauce becomes.
