Description

These Vietnamese Chicken Wings are made with chicken wings, baking powder, garlic powder, fish sauce, sugar, limes, mint and cilantro.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt
  • 1/2 cup fish sauce
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • 1 tablespoon chopped mint
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. In a ziplock bag, add the chicken wings, baking powder, garlic powder and salt. Toss to combine.
  2. Oven: Add the chicken wings onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven at 425F for 25-30 minutes. You may broil an extra 2-3 minutes after for extra crispiness.
  3. Air Fryer: Set the air fryer to 360 degrees F and cook for 12 minutes, then flip the wings with tongs and cook for 12 minutes more.
  4. Grill: On medium heat, Grill, flipping the wings every 5 minutes, for a total of 20 minutes of cooking.
  5. Meanwhile in a saucepan, add the sugar, fish sauce, lime juice and sesame oil and bring to a light simmer, for five minutes, until the sugar melts.
  6. Add the wings into a mixing bowl and add the sauce and shake well. Garnish with mint and cilantro.

Notes

  • To make the wings extra crispy, bake them on a wire rack instead of directly on a baking sheet. This will allow air to circulate around the wings, which will help them cook evenly and crisp up nicely.
  • To make the sauce, taste it as you go and adjust the seasoning to your liking. If it's too salty, add more sugar or lime juice. If it's too sour, add more sugar or fish sauce.
  • Garnish the wings with chopped peanuts, sliced scallions, and chopped cilantro for an extra pop of flavor and texture.
  • If you're short on time, you can use store-bought Vietnamese fish sauce dipping sauce instead of making your own sauce.
  • Finally, make sure to serve the wings hot and crispy for the best texture and flavor. Enjoy!
