Description

This Artisan Roasted Garlic Bread Recipe with Baguette is made with a baguette, garlic, butter, parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes and olive oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf baguette, cut lengthwise
  • 4 garlic heads
  • 1 stick softened salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon minced basil
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Olive oil, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 °F.
  2. Cut the top part of the heads of garlic and drizzle olive oil on top of the cut portion. Wrap the entire garlic heads, individually, with aluminum foil. Roast in the oven for 1 ½ hours.
  3. In a bowl, add the butter, basil, parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes and a pinch of salt. Squeeze the garlic into the bowl using your hands or a spoon.
  4. Mix well and brush the bread on the cut side with the mixture.
  5. Place bread in the oven for 15 minutes, until golden and crispy.

Notes

  • Use fresh bread: Start with a fresh loaf or baguette of bread for the best results. Fresh bread will have a better texture and flavor compared to stale or old bread.
  • Choose the right type of bread: Choose a bread with a firm texture and a relatively low moisture content, such as a baguette, Italian bread, or French bread. These types of bread tend to hold up well to the garlic butter spread and maintain a crispy texture when baked.
  • Use real butter: For the best flavor, use real butter instead of margarine or spreads. Butter adds a rich and delicious taste to the garlic bread. You can use salted or unsalted butter depending on your preference.
  • Use fresh garlic: Use freshly minced garlic for the best flavor. Avoid using pre-minced garlic in a jar, as it may lack the fresh garlic flavor and can sometimes be bitter.
  • Customize the seasoning: Feel free to customize the seasoning to your preference. You can add other herbs or spices such as parsley, oregano, thyme, or red pepper flakes to the garlic butter for added flavor.
  • Don't skimp on the spread: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture on the bread slices or the bread halves to ensure that the flavor is evenly distributed. Make sure to spread it all the way to the edges for maximum flavor.
  • Toast the bread before adding the garlic butter: To enhance the flavor and texture of the garlic bread, you can lightly toast the bread slices or bread halves in the oven before spreading the garlic butter on top. This will give the bread a crispy texture and prevent it from becoming too soggy when the butter is added.
  • Add cheese for a twist: For a cheesy garlic bread, you can sprinkle grated cheese, such as mozzarella, cheddar, or Parmesan, on top of the garlic butter before baking. The cheese will melt and create a gooey, flavorful topping.
  • Keep an eye on baking time: Watch the garlic bread closely while it's baking to avoid burning. Baking time can vary depending on the type of bread and the thickness of the slices, so keep an eye on it and adjust the baking time as needed to achieve the desired level of crispiness.
  • Serve it hot: Garlic bread is best served hot, so serve it immediately after baking for the best flavor and texture.
