Description

This Gin Grapefruit Cocktail is made with gin, grapefruits, seltzer water, and garnished with grapefruit slices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2-3 oz gin
  • 1 cup pink grapefruit juice
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • Ice Cubes
  • 1/2 cup spiked seltzer water
  • 2 grapefruit slices, to garnish

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, pink grapefruit juice, and granulated sugar. Shake well until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Fill a glass with ice cubes and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass.
  3. Top it off with spiked seltzer water to add a bubbly and effervescent touch.
  4. Garnish with grapefruit slices by sliding them onto the rim of the glass or floating them on top of the cocktail.
  5. Stir gently to combine all the flavors.
  6. Serve and enjoy your refreshing grapefruit cocktail!

Notes

  • Use fresh ice when you strain the drink into the glass.
  • Use Fresh Grapefruit Juice: For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed grapefruit juice rather than bottled juice. Freshly squeezed juice has a brighter and more vibrant taste, enhancing the overall quality of your cocktail.
  • Adjust Sweetness: Taste your grapefruit juice before adding any additional sweetener such as sugar or simple syrup. Grapefruits can vary in sweetness, so adjust the amount of sweetener based on the natural sweetness of your juice and your personal preference.
  • Experiment with Gin: While gin is the traditional spirit used in grapefruit cocktails, don't be afraid to experiment with different types of gin. Try a London dry gin for a classic taste, or opt for a botanical or citrus-infused gin to enhance the grapefruit flavors even more.
  • Chill Your Glassware: To keep your grapefruit cocktail cool and refreshing, chill your glassware before serving. You can place the glasses in the refrigerator or add ice cubes to them for a few minutes before pouring the cocktail.
  • Shake Vigorously: When using a cocktail shaker, shake the mixture vigorously to thoroughly mix the ingredients and chill the cocktail. Aim for about 15 to 20 seconds of vigorous shaking to achieve a well-blended drink.
  • Garnish with Fresh Citrus: Enhance the visual appeal and aroma of your grapefruit cocktail by garnishing it with fresh citrus slices or twists. Add a slice of grapefruit or a twist of grapefruit peel to the rim of the glass for an elegant touch.
  • Consider Rimming the Glass: For an extra flavor element, rim the glass with a mixture of salt, sugar, or chili powder. This adds a delightful contrast to the tartness of the grapefruit and can elevate the overall experience of your cocktail.
  • Experiment with Herbal Additions: If you enjoy herbal flavors, consider adding fresh herbs like basil, rosemary, or thyme to your grapefruit cocktail. Muddle the herbs in the shaker or use them as a garnish to infuse additional aromas and complexities into the drink.
  • Serve with Plenty of Ice: Ensure your grapefruit cocktail is served over a generous amount of ice cubes. The ice helps to keep the drink cool and dilutes it slightly, balancing the flavors and creating a more refreshing sip.
