This homemade meat sauce provides so many options when it comes to Italian cooking. Personally, I like my meat sauce VERY meaty and you will see what I mean. This sauce hails from the Nan’s family (although it’s not their SPECIAL sauce) but it’s perfect for lasagna. You can also use this sauce to put on pizza and pasta.
This thick, meaty and hearty sauce has a phenomenal flavor and a combination of Sweet Italian Sausage, Lucanica Sausage and ground beef. This is a perfect, comfort meal for a Sunday.
How to make Sausage and Meat Sauce
Start by blending the whole plum tomatoes in a blender. You could buy the tomato sauce, but I always found the it tastes better this way.
On medium-high heat, heat up 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add beef and sausage and the garlic powder. Brown the meat and sausage, breaking the meat and sausage up with a wooden spoon, about 8-10 minutes. Pour in the wine and simmer for 1 minute. Reduce heat and add the blended tomatoes. Sprinkle salt and pepper and add the bay leaf. Reduce to the lowest heat possible, cover, and simmer for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
