Why drink matcha?

Matcha is high in antioxidants, protects the liver, boosts brain function, may help prevent cancer, promotes heart health, helps you lose weight, and is organic. Matcha was started in Uji, Japan so if you want to buy the best of the best, make sure you buy matcha that comes from there.

I love the green vibrant color of matcha. It also has such a delicate aftertaste and is a great alternative to coffee. Both matcha and coffee have minimal calories and a bitter taste. Though they are both caffeinated drinks, coffee contains more caffeine than matcha per serving. Coffee instants gives you an energy kick while matcha boosts your energy at a slower pace thus having less of a crash.

To summarize: Matcha has a ton of benefits but can be more expensive than coffee. Teapaz is the matcha I bought and actually is less expensive than most matchas out there, and is great quality.

Add the hot water and matcha into a cup and whisk until smooth. If you do not have a bamboo whisk, use a blender. Make sure to add the water before the matcha so it doesn’t stick on the bottom. Whisk or blend until smooth, until matcha chunks are no longer visible.

Pour the milk and sweetener  and whisk or blend.

Serve with ice.

Description

This is a Matcha Iced Latte using any kind of milk, ice, matcha green tea, and your choice of sweetener, like maple syrup of honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ teaspoon matcha green tea powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 1 cup your favorite kind of milk, like almond
  • Honey or maple syrup, to taste
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Add the hot water and matcha into a cup and whisk until smooth. If you do not have a bamboo whisk, use a blender. Make sure to add the water before the matcha so it doesn’t stick on the bottom. Whisk or blend until smooth, until matcha chunks are no longer visible.
  2. Pour the milk and sweetener  and whisk or blend.
  3. Serve with ice.

Notes

  • Once you adapt to matcha taste, you can add 1 teaspoon instead.
  • If you want to make this ahead of time, add into a mason jar and give it a good shake before serving with ice.
  • Make sure to get quality matcha – I used Teapaz and it is AMAZING!
